Why are we so passionate about putting shoes on people in need?
We know that shoes are vital to success on so many levels, and so many in our community go without them. Shoes allow us to have solid foundations and help us move from a point of need to a point of abundance.
Shoes Promote Health
According to the World Health Organization, more than 1.5 billion people, or 24% of the world’s population are infected with soil-transmitted helminth infections worldwide. They are found in helminths (a type of parasitic worm), which can penetrate the skin through bare feet. Parasites can enter the body through the soles of the feet when a person walks barefoot or through ingestion. Shoes provide that safety barrier to protect the body from debilitating diseases.
Shoes Promote Confidence
Those in need are often labeled and judged by their appearances. Whether someone is interviewing for a job, or simply walking down the sidewalk, the lack of shoes or basic clothing is an immediate opportunity for judgment. A simple pair of shoes can give someone the confidence they need to take care of themselves and their family, without constant stares and sideways glances.
Shoes Promote Success
Let’s face it, basic clothing items are a requirement for basic success in our culture. However, they are even more essential for people in jobs. By providing shoes to those in need, we allow them a basic tool to let the be successful in job interviews, their jobs, and ultimately, in improving their life situation.
